Alexander Peskanov was inspired to write Africana after his travels to South Africa and listening to beautiful rhythms and melodies. Originally, Africana was written by Peskanov as a piano solo and piano duet. Later, the work was orchestrated by composer's friend, Juliana Reina Téllez and premiered by Teclas Sinfónicas Orchestra, conducted by Camilo Rojas.
