Equestrian Suite
for Flute and Piano
Equestrian Suite was commissioned by OK Mozart Festival in Bartlesville, OK for Equestrian show. Peskanov dedicated this composition to his wife, Lu Ann, who is a flutist. The four movements are written in eclectic styles that portray different Great Composers gathered together to chat about horses. The first movement, The Great Procession, represents Handel and Wagner. In the second, Playful Ponies, Beethoven joins in. The third movement is Waltz of the Unicorn, where Ravel, Chopin and Johann Strauss continue discussin on the same topic. The fourth movement is named after composer's oldest daughter, Rachael, who was distracting her father while he was composing. It is the most boisterous movement and portrays young Mozart excited about the horses. At the end the wild horseman get's thrown on the ground.
